Many things can influence the academic achievement and emotional growth of a student. In this regard, peers have more of an impact than teachers do.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
When young students study at school, teachers hold importance in their academical path, in addition, the teacher also affects students mental growth as well. However, some say that peers have a more influential impact on an individual. I strongly agree with the statement since the environmental factors are important and students can develop by competing with each other.
To begin with, it is a common belief that surrounded environments are very important to a human being. Naturally, people follow the person who is close to them, such as small gestures or habits. Moreover, they tend to be affected by the atmosphere. For this reason, many parents wish to send their child to a prestigious school in a safe town. It is true that students spend more time with friends. Unlike teachers, students can spend time with friends, even after school. Thus, kids are likely to be influenced by the peer group, which they hang out most of the time.
To be more specific, students tend to excel when they are in a competitive situation. Although excessive competition is harmful, the adequate competitive mood in the classroom can motivate student since young students are easy to be affected by their surroundings. In school, it is very common for them to gather around and check their answers or scores after the exam. Most of the students are eager to know their friends' scores, instead of the teacher’s thought.
To sum up, whether teachers have more impact in school rather than a peer group is a continuing controversy. Many people insist that a peer group is the biggest concern for teenagers and I strongly agree with this opinion. Affecting by the surrounded environment is one of the instincts of human and students can grow by interacting with them.
