The given table chart illustrates the percentage of young students who had attended four different types of secondary schools from 2000 to 2009. Overall, it is clearly seen that the highest number of students chose to go to Voluntary-controlled schools in 2000, whereas this trend changed into going to community schools the most in 2009. Out of four schools, young pupils deciding to go to Voluntary-controlled schools was significantly higher in 2000, at 52% and specialist schools and community schools were equally the lowest at 12%. The proportion of young students choosing to go to Voluntary-controlled schools were the highest in 2005 as well, but it decreased by 14% compared to the year 2000, while young people who entered community schools increased, at 58% in 2009, which overtook the number of voluntary-controlled schools by 38%. It can be seen that specialist schools had the lowest percentage of children attending, just over 10% in all years, while grammar schools showed a downtrend during the period shown, started at 24% in 2000, and finished at 12% in 2009.
