Many
small local shops are closing as they are unable to compete with large
supermarkets in the area.
How does this affect
local communities?
How could this situation
be improved?
In today’s world, a lot
of tiny local shops are shutting down since they are not capable of competing
with big chains supermarkets in their community. There are a number of factors this
phenomenon can influence to the local communities, and as far as I am concerned,
I believe that the best way of deal with this issue is for the government to control
the business hours of large-scale stores.
In general, there are
numerous results of plenty of small-scale stores going bankrupt. First and the
foremost, unemployment rate and the price of products will be increasing considering
that the local business can not hire citizens if they are shutting down, and some
large shops which hold a dominant position would monopolize business. In particular,
it could be difficult to startup a business for local people as large-scale stores
only strive in their area. Not just that but also, individuals may have inconvenience
to get to big markets because they are usually locate far from residential area.
Last but not the least, this phenomenon causes local people migrate to other locations as workers are discouraged in a hard living and have lower community spirit.
Although it is getting
harder to maintain local business in today’s world, I believe this can be
solved by government policies. As a matter of fact, controlling the operating
hours and days of big chains markets can make people to go to local shops as
they can not shop there at an certain time. In conjunction, individuals can
have an opportunity to work at small markets in their community when the large-scale
supermarkets are not running. In the long run, there will be a chance to grow
their business and boost their local economy, which is making business diversity
and higher community spirit.
In conclusion, there are
a volume of effects of the small business being closed on local areas, and in
my personal perspective, managing the operation hours of big supermarkets would
settle this matter.
