It is a controversial issue that whether the government should sometimes
infringe on the freedom of citizens or not. Some people insist that the
government shold, because of the public’s safety; however, others contend the
government shouldn’t, because assuring the people’s freedom is the reason
itself that the government exists. Though both sides have their own reasonable
supports, I firmly believe that sometimes the government should infringe on the
freedom of people.
To begin with, by infringing on the freedom, the public safety is
guaranteed. If the government did not regulate the people’s freedom, a
dangerous situation could occur. For example, if anybody could buy a gun without
any regulations or foresights of the government, it could threat the people’s safety.
The survey conducted by St. Peter University, about 85% of the people who
killed by a fire weapon are killed by illegal guns.
On top of that, for checking on that the regulations are well observed,
infringing on the people’s freedom is needed, too. Though there are a lot of
regulations that make the society safe, if it is not observed, then the
regulations are useless, and people would be in dangerous environments. It is a
good example that random medical checks on pilots and drinking checks on drivers.
To sum up, though people can insist that the government should not
infringe on the freedom of citizens, because of the public safety and checking
on whether the regulations for the people’s safety is well observed, the
government should sometimes infringe on the citizen’s freedom.
