Innovations in printing, paper-making and transport have brought a rise in literacy, but many parts of the world remain some way off from attaining literacy. With the emergence of digital reading today, they (이게 문맥상 지칭하는 바가 조금 애매해서, 보다 확실히 해주시는 것도 괜찮아보입니다.) can strengthen the links between their levels of literacy and their economy. However, reading ebooks have some disadvantages as well. In this essay, I will examine how they can influence local libraries while illustrating the reasons why ebooks are so popular than stories on paper. (둘은 순서가 바뀌어야 합니다. 즉, 논제의 언급된 순서로 가주시면 돼요.)
In my opinion, the best part of ebooks (이것도 '틀린 건' 당연히 아닌데, 여기에 reason이라는 단어를 넣어주시면 좋아요. 그래야 논제와 더 일치하게 됩니다.) is the infinity of storage capacity. As human memory and brains have a limit in its functioning, people have always sought for the infinite that provides an escape from the finiteness of their existence. The very first infinite that gave them the sense of transcendence was paperbooks. As a means of recording, they could contain a huge amount of information and knowledge that humans cannot technically remember. However, today, ebooks can do the same even better.
Nevertheless, the ecosystem of ebooks can have a negative influence on many local libraries. Because of the merits of digitalised books, the disadvantages of the library and their books have become distinctive. The limit they have often makes people lose interests in reading and discourages them to visit the library even though they are the same local. Thus, the digitalised reading culture can make the local communities remain without being revitalised.
Taking everything into account, ebooks are now very popular, and their capacity is beyond that of humans with a limit in its being. However, many libraries might not welcome this trend because it means that people can become smart without the library. |
