It
is a common belief that government does not violate an individual's privacy and
it should be protected no matter what happens. However, I firmly believe that
infringement of personal space has to be conducted by the government when its
main purpose is preserving people's lives and its own country.
[본론]
To
begin with, the government and public institutions must carry out searches to
prevent potential dangers such as those committed by terrorists. These days,
terrorists try highjacking airplanes and the threaten many unspecified persons.
For example, public institutions have been security checks at airports all over
the world for people and their belongings to prohibit loading bombs, guns, and
other dangerous objects. It was highly enforced after the September 11th terror
attacks. This process can reduce any dangers and ensure the safety of people.
On
top of that, encroachment on private life is justified for national security
like counter-espionage. Many people think that it is not necessary anymore, but
it is always one of the most important things for the safety of society. Take
an example of South Vietnam. Although this country was 8th rank of military
power around the world in the 1960s, it was defeated and conquered by North
Vietnam where it was relatively a militarily inferior country. The reason was
that North Vietnam succeeded in espionage and many spies provided them with
official secrets.

To
sum up, though the government has to try to guarantee people's freedom, it is
undeniable that the government should violate one's privacy when the ultimate
goal is protecting people's lives and national security. |
