There are some countries that have greater
proportion of young people than older people. Regarding this, I believe that this
trend is more beneficial than harmful.
To begin with, many people are also
concerned about disadvantages of this trend. First, since there are many young
people who want to get a job, so fierce competition in a job market is well expected.
Furthermore, companies might consider a young person as something which can be
replaced. From what I see in African countries where more than half of the
national population is young generation from 20s to 30s, there are many
youngsters who give up getting a job; because of high birth rates, not all children
can get education and some are neglected. In this situation, large number of
young people can be a burden of a country, rather than a blessing.
However, if a country has a large number of young
adults, it would mean there is a great proportion of workable people in a country.
A government then receive more taxation from them, which leads to increase the economical
power of a government. Consequently, the rich government can invest in education,
and in public welfare such as leisure facilities and public health care. At the
same time, in countries with large elderly citizen population, it has become
unavoidable to accept foreign workers to meet the demand of labor force.
Furthermore, they have to allocate a tremendous proportion of budget to
pensions or primary health care of chronic diseases, rather than a development
of a country.
In conclusion, although there are some disadvantages
of some countries with greater proportion of young adults, I do believe it is
more beneficial in a long-run.
