In modern era, the number of children who are exposed to
advertisements in daily life is being increased in the world. Some people argue
that many children are forced to purchase a lot of products due to advertisements
while others say they give useful information to children. In this essay, both
views and my opinion will be discussed.
To begin with, the biggest advantage with advertisements is that
it provides a wide range of information to children. In the past, children have had to go to school to access new knowledge whereas children today can learn a variety various types of information through advertisements. For example, the advertisement
of toothpaste teaches to brush their teeth at least twice daily. Likewise, they
are able to obtain a lot of abilities with advertisement. This includes the
ability to save water and electricity through environmental advertisement. Therefore, advertisements
would give essential information to children.
On the other hand, the main downside of advertisements is to
make children to have a tendency of impulse buying. A few decades ago, the only
way to purchase products is was that children should go to shops with their parents.
Later as advertisement evolves evolved, children are more likely to buy a wide range of products
by advertisements at one click. For example, an 18 year old girl who watches fancy
clothing advertisements regularly would buy an expensive dress to brandish in
front of their her friend even though she can not afford to buy it. Consequently, an
exposure to advertisements, children would grow into impulse buying adults.
In my opinion, another disadvantage with advertisements is that it has negative effects on children’s health. There is no doubt that the majority
of children can access to a high number of fast-food advertisements easily. It leads
them to eat junk food which has less nutrients to their body. As a result,
this contributes them being to suffer from more obesity than ever before.
Therefore, advertising has negative impacts on children’s health.
In conclusion, although advertisement has beneficial of
educational value, it leads to having an overspending lifestyle and bad diet habits.
Therefore, advertising has harmful impacts on children. |
