In globalized world, visiting to other countries has become one of wonderful leisure activities. As contacts between people from different nations become more often, unfortunately, there comes unmentioned conflicts sometimes, which are caused by cultural problem. One insist visitors should follow local culture, whereas the others disagree saying host country need to understand visitors' behaviour.
The former believes understanding and following host country's culture is a kind of manners as a visitor. Anyone in any country has a certain confidence about one's language and culture. If one visits to look around and feel their tradition, understanding their unique cultural customs and knowing simple word to say hello also helpful to visitors themselves and host countries people.
The others think that visitors' different behaviours do not matter so much. They just come there to see, not to love. Moreover, all visitors are potential customers to be sold nation's products. There is no merchant who force customer to be polite. It is natural that foreigners have differences and as a host, host country should demonstrate a tolerance. A kindness is one of factors that complete survices.
Personally, I agree with the former's idea. As I mentioned above, respecting other's culture benefits both visitors and host country. The reason visitors go to abroad might be a desire to experience other culture. Then just looking would not cover up the desire. Visitors must know the 'inside'. Of course, the inside means the culture in this case. And it is easy to know, there is nothing that illustrates one's cultural characteristic than a language. |
