I
agree with the statement that giving aid to poorer countries has more negative
side than positive effects. I had experienced with volunteering in India and
Lao PDR. And I would like to share some cases I’ve learned from there.
First, giving aid to poorer countries will make them
lazy. In other words, they loss their motivation to develop their country by
themselves. They will just wait until advanced country will give a help to
them. For example, in Lao PDR, Chinese government install the train rail
instead Lao government. Furthermore, Korean major company build airport in
capital city, Laos. Even there are still a lot of place to build and remodel it
but Lao government is trying to do nothing.
Second, ineffective aid would be another problem. For
example, there are many mothers and their babies died during giving birth in
India including other developing countries. This is because they use infective scissors
that are not hygienic in the process of cutting the umbilical cord. In this
case, Korean government send some doctors and nurses from own country. They had
to spend a lot of taxes but it turns out the project was failed. Because they
cannot more afford to maintain the system. If Korean government provided just
new scissors and teach them how to hygienic it, that could be enough.
Finally, if residence in poorer country got aid
without effort, they will take granted receive aid. For example, when malaria
disease seriously happened in some region in Africa, the USA government gave
them a free mosquito net to residents. However, most of residents sold it to
other village people or use it as catching fish in the ocean not for protecting
from mosquitos. On the other hand, when the USA government sell the mosquito
net at the other village with a little cost, the people in a habitat use it as
a real mosquito net. And it decreased high ratio to get malaria disease.
In conclusion, giving aid to poorer countries has more
negative than positive effects, I disagree with giving aid especially for free. |
