In contemporary society, people have different opinions on whether governments should spend their budgets on railways rather roads. While some assert that roads should be preferred when governments decide to use their money, I strongly believe that railways should be the first option, considering our society trend and environment. I will further outline my argument below.
First of all, trains are more convenient to commute and move than cars because average speed of trains exceed that of cars. For example, KTX's max speed is around 400km/h. It is much faster than cars. From these features, people can move other area very fast when they ride trains. And there is no traffic jams on the railways. In the modern society, it is very common to get stuck in heavy traffics on the roads. Because most of the people own their cars. For example the rate of people who own cars is about 60% in Korea. This is the critical reason that trains can be the convenient transportation compared to cars.
Furthermore, trains are more suitable for decreasing air pollution. These days, many countries including England and Korea, are trying to solve global warming. One of the solutions is to cut down of car's emmision. To achieve this, some countries control over the numbers of cars very strictly. But trains are operated by electricity while cars use gasoline. In this regard, it is obvious that trains are more eco-friend transportation than cars.
In conclution, I believe that governments spend money on railways than roads because trains can be useful tools to acheive government's transportation policies goals which improve to decrease people's time of commuting and air pollution. |
