It is a rather controversial topic to
compare both equality and personal achievement nowadays and many people have
different views about it. While some people opine that competition is necessary
to produce better results, others insist that equal environment is more important
to generate better achievements. In my opinion, the individual achievements
should respect for everyone but the equality of start line is also important.
There is no doubt that competitions among peers
lead to develop. For example, almost every developed countries have a liberal
laws that allow the public to compete with each others, and the person who
grown up under pressure of competitions tend to pursue their goal effectively and
efficiency. The United States, one of the global leading country, for example, regards
the personal achievement as a matter of the highest priority and these trend lead
them to global leading country. However, this pursuit of personal achievement provides
a lot of negative effect on modern society. People who live with overwhelmingly
chasing the personal merits might ignore the value of equality. In addition, the broken sense of community due to pursue only personal achievement can cause numerous
social problems such as isolated people, suicide and depression.
On the other hand, opportunity should be equal
for everyone. For instance, if someone who live under poverty line need an extra effort
to be at the same start line, he/she would be exhausted before starting the
game. Indeed, many developing countries have similar social problems with providing equal opportunities. Sometimes, the children of the business or family member of Chief
executive officer have a toll-free ticket to employ, even though they do not
have a quality of that position.
Considering these factors, if we pursue personal achievement after providing equal opportunity to everyone, our society
would be much better than only focus on personal success. |
