Your Answer ▼ In recent years, it became common to see numerous video cameras called CCTV in public areas. While the aim of the use of it is to reduce a crime , it is one of controversial topics among people since some people say that it invades people’s privacy. From my point of view, I believe that merits of the use of CCTV are bigger than demerits. To begin with, there are several disadvantages of the use of video cameras . First of all, people are exposed to the risk of invasion of privacy by being recorded by the video camera. They may think that these cameras invade their privacy and it makes people feel uncomfortable since they should be conscious of the cameras. Moreover, people can’t know whether the video camera was stalled by government or an anonymous person. It means that CCTV can be used as a tool for one’s crime. In spite of the drawbacks mentioned above, I believe that the use of video cameras monitoring public areas is a effective measure to prevent crimes. Firstly, the existence of video cameras makes offenders deter from re-offending by being aware of what they are being monitored. Secondly, It can not be ignored that CCTV enables police officers who are chasing them to obtain a clue in the crime scene. Furthermore, victims of the crime can utilize the record of CCTV as a evidence to back up their assertion and prove their innocence . In conclusion, although the use of video cameras is still one of controversy matters, it is true that we can ensure our safety from crimes in the public places. Thus, I believe the use of it plays an important role in decreasing a crime rate.
