There are mixed opinions on what make people commit a crime.
Some argue that poverty make people commit a crime. However, others dispute
people’s inborn characteristic lead people to commit a crime. This essay
discusses both side of this issue and then I will give my own perspective which
is that under privileged circumstance is primary cause of crime.
Some people insist that the most reason why criminals commit
a crime is their shortness. For example, according to statistics, the high
school students who are from under privileged family commit more crimes than
other students from affluent family does. This is because poor parents don’t
pay attention on their children education due to their tough life, the students
spend most of their time with bad student at school unintentionally. Likewise,
many poor countries has very high crime rate compared with rich countries. As
this example illustrates, it is clear that criminals commit a crime because of
their economical poor background.
On the other hand, others argue that the main reason of
committing crime is inborn characteristic of people. From my experience, some
of students at high school enjoyed shoplifting even though they had enough
allowance from their parents. They knew that their behavior was a crime, but
they didn’t stop shoplifting. Furthermore, according to an experiments
regarding babies’ behavior, babies are born with own nature characteristic.
Depending on people, some have a strong sense of consciousness but others don’t
have that. Therefore, different types of people exist in the world, the most
influential reason of a crime is relied on people’s nature.
In conclusion, in my opinion both argument are persuasive
enough. However, I believe that poverty is the primary reason of crime because
I feel that poverty deprived people of many basic experiences which they should
have such as high quality education, happy family relationship and chance to
meet good friends.
