Some people claim that not enough of the waste from homes is recycled. They say that the only way to increase recycling is for governments to make it a legal requirement. To what extent do you think laws are needed to make people recycle more of their waste?
Our society is suffering from the recycle issues due to the huge amount of trashes we make. The most prominent and only way of tackling this problem is to make suitable laws to reduce the waste through proper recycling and there are sound evidences supporting this solution.
First of all, through law, we can prevent the production of waste from the starting point. Imagine that governments are putting more taxes on the products under the law that make huge amount of waste or products made of unrecyclable materials. Then, people in the market will not buy these tax added products based the market theory. Adding to that, companies will make nature friendly products to win their business race ahead of their competitor who has the rocks of taxes around the neck. In this way, government can reduce the total amount of waste that needs to be recycled.
Secondly, laws can guide people to contribute to the recycle movement. Specifically, by making laws that give advantages on the rate of recycling, we can make every people to be an environmental activist. For instance, based on the amount of recyclable waste collected around the county or apartment complex, city government can give special benefic to the community like official prize or reduced taxation.
Otherwise, by making the law that forces class to study regarding proper recycling will make our future generations be more cautious about the problems caused by waste. Noting that early-stage of education has the powerful impact on making one’s life-long habit, proper education at the classroom will make huge impact in the long run on reducing waste.
To conclude,
there are many types of laws that we can take as our counter measures against
waste problems. Thus, considering the expected effectiveness mentioned above, I
strongly agree with the opinion that law is the best way on increasing recycle
rate.
