For many decades, humans have had relationships with money. Sometimes money has more relations with happiness of humankind. It makes countless things possible in life and shows desired results more immediately.
As money is number, it makes easy for people to identify themselves. People get used to being classified by numbering in a society. When they were little, they used to be positioned by their height in a class. However, now they stop growing, and their height becomes useless. Money might be the new means to measure their status as grown ups. Their money and its amount give them a feeling that they have potential to grow endlessly and they are profitable and useful members of society.
Actually, the value of money is very future focused. When people count from zero to one, they at the same time think of tens and hundreds in mind. In that sense, having certain amount of money helps people stop worrying about the future. If they are weekly paid, they can forget about how to feed themselves for the following week for a while. Even though the amount only guarantees a few carefree days, the happiness of living those days would still be valuable to pursue.
Some happiness comes from comparison, and paychecks simplify this process. Initially, money was designed to make buying and selling simpler, and today, it is being used as a price tag of dream jobs. People compare their earnings to that of others and make decisions based on it when they change their jobs. These kinds of exchanges are common among those who care about happiness. The reason why they are so obsessed with money is because it is the easiest way of comparison.
In conclusion, money is more than currency, and it will have strength when people relate their happiness to it. Money will make them happy because it is number and is convenient. |
