Governments should spend tax money on public libraries rather than public transportation improvements.
To what extents do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Tax can be used in numerous situations and it is the government’s duty to decide how it will be spent. There is a controversial topic about the usage of tax money. Some say it should be spent on public libraries rather than public transportation improvements. However, I firmly believe that the government should put more effort into public transportation improvement.
To begin with, the government has to invest more in public transportation since it has many benefits. Firstly, it has positive effects on the natural environment. Currently, many countries are trying hard to make a law which protects the environment. In other words, ‘eco-friendly’ has been a keyword for many years. Using public transportation, such as bus, subway, and train, is much better for the environment by lowering the emission of gas from cars.
Moreover, spending tax to develop public transportation is necessary. By providing an improved transportation system to the people and promoting them to the public, it can also solve serious traffic problems. To be more specific, if people feel that the public transportation is well organized and convenient, comparing to driving their own car, a majority of people will choose taking public transport service. In this way, it can reduce the number of cars on the road and help to solve the traffic problem. For example, in South Korea, the government made ‘Bus-only’ lanes to solve the traffic jam problem and satisfies both bus users and car users.
To sum up, it is undeniable that public transportation can help the environment and solve the traffic problem. To make it more effective, it is the government’s duty to invest and improve the public transit system
