Q: The government should impose a fee on drivers who
use their vehicles during rush hour to help cut down on air pollution from
exhaust fumes. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
Recently, air
pollution has become a hotly debated issue. Some people assert that government
must charge for green tax in order to protect the environment, while others
argue otherwise. And I wholeheartedly agree with the former stand. In the
following essay, the evidence supporting this contention will be discussed
alongside relevant examples.
To begin with,
charging for green tax when a driver use vehicle during rush hour is effective
in reducing air pollution. If there is just putting up a slogan on road
regarding environment conservation, people may don’t think too much about it. However,
imposing a fee on drivers can arouse people’s attention rather than the notice.
One study, for example, shows that the 30% of drivers who is charged a green
tax by government try to avoid using their vehicle during rush hour, because of
a fee. Therefore, to protect air environment, government should charge a fee to
drivers.
On top of that, government
can spend nature tax on preserving environment. The environment is not an
individual’s own property. It is public goods. Therefore we should bear maintenance
costs, and this income must be used for preserving nature. By way of example,
take garbage bag system in Korea. To bump rubbish, we should buy garbage bag. This
system helps earn a maintenance fee for environment, and this income is used
for conservation of nature. Therefore, charging an environmental fee is
necessary.
To sum up, imposing
a nature fee on people is effective in cutting down air pollution and making up
for environmental conservation cost. For these reasons, it is clear that charging
a fee about air pollution is positive for society.
