The line graph illustrates the average carbon dioxide emissions in metric tonnes per person in four different European countries from 1967 to 2007.
In general, it is noticeable that there was a great change in average CO2 emissions per person in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy, and Portugal over the 40-year period. In particular, the figure for average carbon dioxide emissions showed the most significant change.
In the year of 1967, the amount of average carbon dioxide emissions in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy, and Portugal began around 11, 9, 4, and 1.5 in metric tonnes respectively. From 1977 to 1987, there was a dramatic decrease in the average carbon dioxide emissions in Sweden from 10 in metric tonnes to 7 in metric tonnes. Italy's average CO2 emissions per person overtook that for Sweden between 1987 and 1997.
Over the following 20 years, the figure for the average CO2 emissions in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy, and Portugal fluctuated around 9, 7, 5, and 5 in metric tonnes respectively. Between 1997 and 2007, the average CO2 emissions remained unchanged in Italy at 7 in metric tonnes. The amount of average carbon dioxide emissions per person in Portugal started to overtake that for Sweden in the year of 2007.
