Your Answer ▼ There are pros and cons for the opinion whether new technologies are beneficial to children. Some people think that new technologies discourage face-to-face interaction and harm children's communication skills. However, in my opinion, it is required for the schools to design a curriculum based on new technologies, considering the technology is the increased availability of educational information for children. It can be said that the school's creating a new curriculum to use new technologies is not a selection but a necessity in the aspect of children's better educational environment.
On the one hand, the development of many new technology in the educational environment can hinder children's communicative skills. Even though there are other factors for it, nothing is more fundamental factor than being exposed to new technology. According to 'Korea Times', one of the most renowned newspapers in Korea, over 82.5% of the elementary school students in Korea, who have discussed topics with their peers during the class by using computers' cyberspace, showed the lower level of communicative skill. It shows how strongly the prevalence of new technology in education field can affect the ability of verbal communication in a negative way.
On the other hand, technologies can make it possible for children to be exposed to the increased availability of educational information. Despite the fact that the development of new technologies is not the only element for it, it is the most invaluable opportunity that can bring about high availability of educational information. Let's take 'Happy Together', an online educational platform run by the Daejeon City Government, to show how developed technology can allow children to learn effectively as an example. The government has contributed to children's effective studying by running online platform. As a result, most of the elementary school students and teachers in Daejeon use this platform to receive assignments online and provide feedbacks in a digital format. As we can see in the example, new technologies can play a significant role for the availability of educational information. Therefore, it goes without saying that the school should design a curriculum based on new technologies.
In conclusion, the increased availability of educational information can be concerned the positive aspect of the issue, and thus the school should put the emphasis on creating a curriculum that includes new technologies. |
