It is becoming increasingly common for people getting updates on the latest news from internet rather than the traditional method of reading a newspaper. While increasing number of people prefer to read newspapers online, it has been argued that newspaper will still remain as the main source of news. I do not agree with this view. In my opinion, despite the merits the traditional newspaper provides, the electronic source of news will gradually replace the traditional way in reading newspapers. Undoubtedly, there are some minorities that prefer with reading newspapers. Mostly older generations prefer to read their news this way, which is mainly because they have traditionally bought their newspapers over the years which became their habit and do not know how to access to news feed online. However, as society encourages in technology development, the minorities are given no other choices but to learn and adapt in using internet. In other words, many people are peer pressured by the society to electronic devices to access the news and information. As a consequence, the traditional newspaper reading looses its importance and majority of the people use internet to read their news. Another point to consider is that the benefits of online resources overshadows the old newspaper reading habits is that online news are more convenient in various ways. Along with an upsurge of technological development, internet is now provided almost everywhere people go. For example, many countries today are provided with free internet in public transports such as subway station and buses, which allows people to use internet and access in reading new more efficiently. In addition to this, unlike newspapers, reading news through internet is provided to people for free, which will allow everyone to access to any news. All in all, despite some people have preference in reading traditional newspapers, newspapers will continue to decline in its importance and more people will use internet to access the news and soon become the primary source of information in the future. |
