It is true that family structure and roles of each family member have significantly changed over the last few decades. In my opinion, this trend brings a tremendous positive change to the family as a whole. Undoubtedly, it is commonly seen how a modern family structure changed from the past. Compare to the past, most of the families now have the tendency to live as a nuclear family with no more than two generations under the same roof. Moreover, the changes in role play of father and mother has significantly changed throughout the decades. Traditionally, authority was mainly given to males regardless of how much they earn. Moreover, father held a greater responsibility in supporting their family as they were considered the breadwinner of the family, However, past few decades, as women earned greater social rights and were given equal working opportunities, which divided the duty and the authority in home. In other words, the household duties are equally distributed between two sexes which lessens the burden as a father to be the only income producer. From my perspective, this trend will be beneficial for all families. First of all, if fewer generations live in together, each individuals will have greater freedom and privacy without any disturbance from other family members. For instance, parents will have more time for themselves, compared to past when they had to take care of both grandparents and children. Furthermore, the changes in role play where women are also considered as a breadwinner will allow men be freed from financial pressure and being the only source of income in the family. All in all, these changes in the family structure and the role of its members are advantageous for all families. |
