Undoubtedly, environmental pollution has become a major issue globally. Many people are of opinion that the best way to solve this issue is by raising the cost of fuel. In my point of view, it may help in some extend however, it cannot fully resolve this problem so many governments across the world should also tackle this problem in other ways. On the one hand, an increase in petrol cost can help reduce environmental pollution in some degree. With an increase the gas prices, it will provoke people not to use their privately owned automobiles but rather use public transportation. Consequently, fewer automobiles will be used which will result in a decrease in air and noise pollution. However, this method cannot stop environmental pollution alone and increasing the price rate have its limitation. In spite of the above effort by increasing fossil fuel prices, I contend that government should also consider other viable ways to solve this problem. Firstly, the government can provide better and cheap public transportation which will encourage people to use it. Therefore, it will reduce noise and air pollution. In addition, the government can invest on renewable source of energy that is cleaner and cheaper. As a consequence, fuel will no longer be an asset in society as it loses its position in the market. To conclude, although increasing in petrol will redress this issue to some extent, this alone cannot solve global warming, so government should widen their spectrum in ways to fight the pollution on the Earth. |
