It
is true that, as time goes on, science and technology should be the most
essential subjects in society, where everything is extremely based on digital
and autonomy. Therefore, someone argues that every university student has to learn
only the subjects which is necessary in the future. However, others argue that we
should let students to learn whatever they like.
To
begin with, as we can not precisely think which subject is essential later, people
claim that making students learn what they want is a best way. Future is
certainly difficult to foresee since human have tended to anticipate something.
For example, because people don’t know why data are important long time ago, even
data science was not promising, which is called one of the most essential to future
science. As you can see, anticipation is very demanding, hard, and not precise
anytime, even though modern society have better ability to select promising one
in the future.
In contrast, one says that it is time-wasting to learn subjects they
prefer to learn. Acquiring most of the knowledge in one field takes too much time,
which prevent students from studying any other subject which is more important.
More time people spend learning what they want, less time to spend for an important
thing they have.
In result, I think the former view is more convincing: Since it has
a lot of difficulty to think and choose which one is the most useful in the future,
all of the university students study whatever they are interested in. |
