It has become increasingly prevalent in recent years for people to eat food insects due to expanding population. In my opinion, this development has equally positive and negative effects. The rapid growth of people who consume insects can be regarded as positive for both environmental and economic reasons. Firstly, from an environmental perspective, the rate of insect land use may become higher than those of livestock. A person breeding insects, for example, will need less land for growing. This is good for the ecosystem. Moreover, it is possible that consuming insects as food may become an economic benefit. This is because it may lead to collection and breeding with less technology and less capital. In turn, this will benefit the animal form industry and other companies. However, we should not neglect the negative side of this trend. Firstly, those eating insects can suffer an allergy, such as an itchy mouth and throat, and red, swollen skin rash. Insects might contain unknown bacteria and viruses. Moreover, whilst taking bugs may be economically beneficial, it is not beneficial for people who hate bugs. The appearance of bugs is likely to cause disgust and lead to counter-protest. While this may benefit some businesses, those who have a weak stomach will experience increasing disgust. In conclusion, I believe that this trend has both beneficial and negative effects on individuals and finances. The positive impact is reducing costs for forming and growing, but the negative aspect is that it promotes the possibility of harmful effects on the human body. |
