Visual images are one of the most precise tools that can deliver news information. However, some people believe that visual images, such as photographs and videos have relatively weaker reliability compared to other news media tools. Personally, I believe visualised media sources are informative and reliable source of information. We cannot discount the fact that traditional news consists of paragraphs. The main purpose of news is to inform readers about facts, and this was usually done by typing down every information on to newspapers, so the information could be transferred accurately. In the cases of politics, for example, every word spoken by the politicians could impact the nation, hence transcribing into words reduces bias and misinformation. After all, textualised news stories were loved by the world for decades due to its strong accuracy and reliability. Indeed, people who support other sources of information have a validating point, however, I believe visual images are also equivalently reliable. Unlike the past, we are now able to record both visual and audio information into our devices and share to the world. Since those photographs or videos are recorded directly, it is the rawest information, meaning high accuracy. Also, visualised sources contain additional information that texts do not have, such as facial expressions. For example, when an American spy was held as a hostage by the Arabian terrorists, he was rescued by sending a secret message on the news using facial expressions, which would have been unlikely to happen on other media sources. Therefore, visual images deliver the most unmanipulated information and additional message that texts cannot express. To conclude, although newspapers were used for a long time, visual images are equally or more reliable source of information. In saying that, photographs and videos should be furtherly used in news media. |
