The pie charts show why people in Great Britain visited art museums in 1990 and 2000. Overall, it is clear that the reason to learn and gain knowledge is the largest in both years. Most categories increased in 2000 while it decreased to fill their travel schedules. Looking at the pie charts more closely, one can see that the category, which is to learn and gain knowledge, is almost half in both 1990 and 2000. The proportions of attending a special exhibition and spending time with friends and family increased by 6 and 5 percent in 1990 and 2000 respectively. Its percentage was 27% in 1990, which was the 2nd largest, to fill their travel schedules However it decreased to 12 percent in 2000. The proportion of the reason to buy art increased to 5% in 2000, but it is the smallest in both 1990 and 2000 except the category ‘others’. The reason ‘others’ remained stable in 1990 and 2000.
Task2
It is a common belief that it has some advantages for teenagers to get part-time jobs when they are still in school because they can learn about values for success through working. However, there is a more persuasive argument that getting part-time jobs has more negative effects like distracting the students’ study and making them weary. On the one hand, part-time jobs teach the students about what virtues are needed to succeed. They have to know how the world works and understand well about schools’ education, such as the labor ethics and economic theories to succeed in this society. So they can be close to success trough experiencing them themselves with part-time jobs. In fact, according to a survey, more than 40 percent among people who earn high salaries and are expected by other people did part-time jobs when they were students and answered it helped for their success. Nevertheless, it distracts students’ learning and make them tired to work when they are in school. Their working hours are originally the time that they have to invest in their studies. It also become difficult for students to concentrate on their classes because of tiredness from labor. It can lead to decrease of their grades. Recently published research shows that the students who have part-time jobs have lower grades on average than other students. In addition, more than 60 percent among them answered that they were exhausted after working, so couldn’t focus on studies. To sum up, while there are some advantages when the teenage students have part-time jobs, it is evident that there are even more disadvantages of teenagers working. |
