Out of the 4,500 colleges in the country, I believe that NYU has the most diverse student body and
campus environment. NYU’s proximity to New York City will allow me to gain
access to valuable internship opportunities and educational resources. After extensively
researching through the school’s undergraduate programs, I realize that NYU
will provide a broad interdisciplinary education that incorporates the city’s
vibrant and effusive culture. I am confident that by spending the next four
years of my academic career at NYU, I will achieve my goals and prosper in this
urban environment conducive to intellectual growth and academic success.
Growing up as a young
adolescent, I always have been intrigued by the fields of psychology and
cognitive science because of their focus on social, cognitive, and behavioral
processes. After I received the opportunity in high school to teach ESL
students with mental illnesses, I cultivated a desire to study cognitive
science to fulfill my commitment to serve the mental health population. Today,
I realize how much opportunity New York University offers its students in terms
of practical experience, theoretical knowledge, and applicable skills.
Ultimately, I believe that New York University is the ideal institution for my
future academic career because of its community service emphasis, hands-on
applicability, multidisciplinary approach, and commitment to excellence.
Knowing that the professors in the Department of Psychology of College of Arts
and Science have received prodigious awards such as the Champalimaud Vision
Award and have been recognized by notable psychology organization such as the
American Psychological Foundation and Association for Psychological Science, I
know that the university will continue to strive towards excellence in that
field. In addition, I will utilize valuable educational resources and research
opportunities available at NYU in order to become a better professional in the
mental health field. Lastly, I hope to gain important insights in psychology
and cognitive science from the esteemed faculty and scholars at NYU.
