Welcome to the James Scholar Honors Program at Illinois! |
Congratulations! Your application to the University of Illinois has qualified you for the James Scholar honors program in the College of Engineeringand you will be automatically enrolled in the program if you attend Illinois. |
Though this honors program does not include any financial scholarships, it does provide prestige and many added benefits such as early priority registration privileges starting with registration for next spring. This means that you will have a better chance of getting the classes you want. |
In order to maintain your James Scholar status beyond the first year, you must earn at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA (3.5 for ECE students) and you must also take an honors course, during either your first or second semester. By fulfilling these requirements you will be certified as a continuing James Scholar. Each year you are a James Scholar is noted on your permanent academic record, making you that much more attractive for graduate school and employers. |
If you do not meet certification requirements, your membership as a James Scholar will simply expire with no academic penalty, but in your first year you will still be able to register early during the pre-registration periods. |
Congratulations again, and I hope to see you at Illinois this fall! |
Warm regards, |
U. Ravaioli, Associate Dean for Academic Programs |
