주제: A job has a greater effect on overall happiness than a social life does.
There is some discrepancy over whether the greatest factor that influences on people's overall happiness is a job or a social life. Some people might think that social life has a greater effect since meeting their loved ones makes people happy. I, however, firmly think that a job contributes to people's overall happiness more than a social activity does. The reasons are as follows.
To begin with, a job contributes to a greater sense of achievement. Since modern society is becoming rapidly competitive and specialized, people today tend to link themselves with their job, their work, and their performance. Thus, they can get a feeling of achievement and satisfaction when they have a job with high reputation and did well on their work. On the other hand, when they do not have a good result on their work, they easily feel depressed and underestimate the ability of themselves. Therefore, a job influences people's overall happiness more than a social life does. For example, last year, I did not have a job and participated in social meetings actively. Though I could meet many friends, I was not happy because I felt like being a useless person since I was not working. Luckily, I could get over my feeling by getting a job and showing a good performance in my work. It makes me be more confident and optimistic, enabling my life to be more joyful. Without a job, I would keep feeling depressed.
Moreover, a job is strongly linked with salary, which is crucial to people's happiness. To enjoy their lives, people should do various activities and enjoy their hobbies during their free time. However, some activities, such as traveling or shopping, require a lot of money. If people do not earn a lot of money, they cannot enjoy such activities. Thus, salary affects to people's happiness by allowing or prevent from doing activities they want. For example, my sister was a teacher until five years ago. She could enjoy many social activities, but she often felt depressed. It was because her hobby is traveling but she could not go on a trip often because of her low salary. She changed his job to a doctor, and now she earns a lot of money, allowing her to travel oversea anytime she wants. Thanks to her job, she can enjoy her life better than before.
To sum up, I highly believe that a job affects people's overall happiness than a social activity does since it is closely related to their feelings of achievement and their salary. All in all, the importance of being satisfied and happy with one's job cannot be overestimated.
