▶ Your Answer : Nowadays, with the development of respecting students' freedom,
whether they wear school uniforms or not is a growing issue. Admittedly,
students have the freedom of wearing their favorable clothes. However, wearing
school uniforms gives more benefits to both students and their parents. When it
comes to wearing school uniforms, if I had to choose one, I would say that high
school students should mandatorily wear school uniforms. This idea is based on
two reasons for equality and punctuality. First of all, school uniforms bring equality among students. Some
students are from the lower class, middle class, or top class. Whereas affluent
students can wear expensive clothes, to the lower class students, it is not
affordable. If school allow students to wear freely, the difference in clothing
style might result in feeling the hierarchy among students. For example, in the
past, the Korean government implemented a uniform-free policy for high school
students. At first, it seemed that many students liked the new policy; however,
after a few months, the government canceled the policy and let every high
school students wear the school uniforms. Since some students wore expensive
clothes and others wore cheap ones, mostly lower class students felt depressed
about exposing their social level.
Second, school uniforms make people get ready for school, and
it improves punctuality. If school uniforms become mandatory for high school
students, the students will do not have to choose what they take on every
morning. Wearing school uniforms, they can go to school early and do not miss
their classes. For instance, when I was a high school student, because the only
choice I could wear was my school uniform, I did not have to concern about my
style. Therefore, though I often got up late, I was able to get ready fast and
make it in time. Also, because I could save my time in the morning, I spent the
time having breakfast. My mother felt so happy about that because she is always
concerned if I skip my meal due to time lacking. If I had not worn my school
uniform, I would not have kept punctual and even been late for school. In brief, I firmly believe that the advantage of wearing school uniforms
far outweighs its disadvantages for the reasons I have mentioned above. All in
all, the importance of making school uniform mandatory cannot be underestimated
in students' lives.
