▶ Your Answer : Undoubtedly, planning thier own goal plays a significant role in people's daily lives in many places where they both work and play. Some people might argue that it is better to have an ambitious goal than a realistic goal, whereas others would not agree. Both sides may have their own reasons to support their ideas. If I were asked to choose one, I would say that setting an ambitious goal is more beneficial in many ways. There are reasons and examples for my choice. Most of all, when people have an ambitious goal, they can improve their academic performance. Realizing an ambitious goal requires them to be diligent, passionate and self-disciplined. When these personal traits are well developed, they are likely to bring a better result in life. For example, my youngest brother did poorly in high school. He often skipped classes and even failed math and science. He was easily distracted, procrastinated, and acted on impulse. In fact, he was not motivated to be diligent and passionate, because he did not have any challenging goal that he wanted to realize. However, he changed little by little aftert he visited to the Harvard, one of the most prestigious school, and was fascinated to its beautiful campus. He had a goal to enter the school. He realized that his active participation helped him realize his dream, while his laziness negatively affected it. Thanks to his active participation, he maintained good behavior by raising his grades. He showed characteristics of a better ability to delay gratification, a longer attention span, and stronger passion in his tasks. He exceled throughout high school, and received straight A's in his classes, and finally entered the Harvard. Without having a challenging goal, he would mosty likely have fallen behind. All in all, I strongly believe that the advantages of having an ambitious goals far outweigh those of setting a realistic goals for the reasons I mentioned above. In this regard, the importance of having challenging goals cannot be overestimated.
