Various opinions may exist over the argument
that multi-tasking has a negative effect on student academic work. As far as I
concerned, I am in complete agreement with this argument. The two reasons
stated below can valid to support my view.
To begin with, the multi-tasking disenables
student to focus on their studies.
In detail, multi-taking can cause low
concentration and, thus, make less effective work performance. In these days,
students have to compete to seize the limited chance provided by schools,
companies and the job market. Therefore, in order to gain their own competitiveness,
they should know what they need first and focus on.
Take Warren Buffett for instance. He was a
globally CEO and an investor. Listed among Times Most 100 influential people,
he was mentioned that it was important making priority list when he worked. This
effort shaped him into successful business man. Such comment sounds highly
convincing since he is a well-known man of success.
In addition, the multi-taking can make a
lot of stress for people.
Specifically, people feel overwhelming when
they work various things. This can cause stress for people. Stress is obviously
harmful in many ways. It can cause an emotional problems, physical problems and
poor performance. Thus, in order to improve overall quality of life, people
should focus on one thing instead of caring of various things.
According to a study conducted by cognitive
science team in UCLA’s research department, there was a huge gap between two groups
of high school students who had been used to different type of task during one
month. The first group was given only one task for each day, while the second
group was forced to three more tasks for each day. And then they recorded their
self-confidence grade from 0 to 10 after each day. The researchers found out
that the former showed higher grade for 8.5 days on average, while latter was extremely
lower grade 1.2 days on average.
This result of study indicated that
multi-taking can make negative effect for student to improve their academic
works.
Taking all these into consideration, I am
in complete agreement that multi-tasking has a negative effect on student
academic work.
