There is some discrepancy over whether taking a lot of time to make an important decision is good or bad for a person. Some people believe that it is beneficial because it helps a person to make a better decision. I, however, firmly think that it has more disadvantages than advantages. The reasons are as follows.
To begin with, consuming so much time to decide can interrupt other people related with the decision. An important decisions are often associated with many people, and it is crucial to make an agreement regarding the decision within those people. However, if one person delays his or her decision for a long time, it will interrupt other people from working on. For example, last year, I worked on a group project with four other students. The topic was about whether we agree or disagree with utilizing nuclear energy. It was important to decide one opinion and prepare some supporting ideas and references until the deadline. However, we could not meet the due date because one of the group members did not decide his opinion and kept saying he needed more time to think of benefits and problems of nuclear energy. Other members and I were angry about his lateness and our group got a low score on the project because we could not meet the deadline. As this experience shows, taking so much time to make a determination bothers other people from working on a project on time.
Moreover, it is never true that a decision which is made in a long time is not always good.(never과 not 같은 부정문을 너무 많이 사용하면 문장이 의도하고자 하는 바를 명확히 전달하기 어려울 수 있어요. 간결한 문장을 지향해주세요~) Some people believes that if they spend a lot of time making a decision, they can make a better decision, but it is not true. This is because those time is mostly for thinking about the same idea or choosing the option when pros and cons are already clear. Therefore, there is hardly any fact that is newly discovered by thinking one thing for a longer time. Last year, a team of researchers in Stanford University conducted an interview to senior university students with the topic of their choice of university. The researchers compared the ratio of students who regretted their choice of school between two group of students. One group consisted of those who choose the university in a week, while the other group was made of those who spent more than a week to choose the school. The researchers found out that the results of two groups are were 32.8 percent and 33.1 percent respectively, which are almost same. This was because the fact that students cannot undergo lives of all universities is constant, and the information about each university is accessible in a week, so whether consuming time less than a week or more than a week does not affect the quality of a decision. As this study reveals, spending a lot of time does not guarantee a better decide.
To sum up, I highly believe that investing much time in making a determination is problematic since it can disturb other people can it does not necessarily give a better decision. All in all, the importance of making a decision in a moderate time cannot be overestimated.
