▶ Your Answer : It has been a prevalent opinion that spending the university budget wisely is very crucial in shaping, students' campus life. From this view point, I believe that it is important for universities to invest money on sports as they do on libraries. This is because investing money on sports helps students to relieve stress and encourages students to broaden perspectives. Recently, a famous major newspaper published an article about recent researches toward students' stress. The article has revealed that students who play sports after school tend to show much lower stress index. Majority of students mentioned that, due to stopless exams, they felt the tremendous mental pressure, and this was the 'number one' reason why students normally had high stress index. However, students who played sports, such as basketball, soccer, baseball and etc, right after school showed the obvious difference. They had relatively lower stress index distribution. The results of researches indicated that playing sports helped students to forget about their problems they usually deal with in their universities. Before reading the article, I thought universities should not invest money on sports as much as they do on libraries, However, after reading the article, my view changed for the reason I just mentioned. A renowned social scientist in South Korea published a paper that playing sports help students to broaden perspectives. Statistically, university students spend most of their time in their major department buildings. In other words, they don't have much chance to interact with other people who are decent at different majors and subjects. The professor suggested that joining sports clubs affiliated to universities encourage students to learn about different perspectives by meeting people from various majors, because sports clubs act as platforms which students can interact each other to share unique ideas. He also compared tendencies toward new ideas between students who are in sports clubs and who are not. The result was quite obvious. The first group of students was keen to take new opinions and respect other people's opinion. On the other hand, the later had sturdy mind-sets. They tended to ignore people who had different perspective, and preferred to accept ideas simliar to theirs. To conclude, I believe that it is crucial for universities to make investments on sports as much money they make on libraries for the following reasons : to relieve stress and to broaden perspective. Consequently, the importance of my view cannot be underestimated for the rasons I have mendtioned above. |
