▶ Your Answer :
There is a controversy whether
teachers were more appreciated and valued by society in the past than they are
nowadays. I strongly think that teachers were more valued and appreciated by
society in the past compared to nowadays because students rely more on other sources
of materials for learning, and also self-learning has been an essential aspect
of education.
To begin
with, students do not rely on teachers for learning nowadays. Because of the
development of technology, students can obtain various information and
knowledge from other sources. In the old days, students did not have the ample
access to education. Students got educated by reading textbooks and interacting
with teachers. However, students can now go onto the internet and search the
information that they want to learn. Through the internet search, students can
obtain information efficiently. Personal computer also enhanced the learning
environment for students. My personal experience I used to depend heavily on
teachers for learning before I tried to learn material by internet. I realized
how efficient it is to do the online learning.
Second, the
role of teachers has been decreased since self-learning becomes important.
Again, the trend of the education has been changed from classroom oriented to
self-learning and experiential learning. In the old days, lectures and tests
were essential part of the class room education, however, the time has changed
such that learning from experience and self-learning are highly valued.
Therefore, teachers are no longer valued and acknowled as the crucial part of
the education system relative to the old days. For instance, the statistics
from Stanford University indicated that the number of teachers has been
decreased over the years due to the change of the educational system, and
additional survey states that general public does not value the teachers as the
appreciated or valued figures. My personal experience also reflects the point.
I have a friend who is teacher, and he mentions that students are not as eager
to learn from the teacher. Students tend to focus more on new way of learning
rather than depending on the conventional way of learning.
Finally,
I argue that teachers are not as valued as the old days due to the invention of
new technology and educational philosophy |
