A
issue on where is better for children to grow up among rural areas and big
cities gets more and more controversial. Some people might think that it is
more beneficial for children to grow up in big cities rather than in
rural areas. If I have to choose one, I would say that growing children in
rural areas is more advantageous. There are a couple of reasons and examples as
follows.
To
begin with, living in rural areas would be more helpful for children to
grow healthier. To explain, there are much healthier and more fresh foods in
rural areas so children has a lot of good opportunities to eat them.
Furthermore, rural areas have fresh air, which gets important more
and more these days since many research proves that air pollution has
a highly negative impact on children's growth. I will take
my personal experience to illustrate my opinion. When I
was 8 years old, I lived in one of the biggest cities in my country,
Seoul, and I had a chronic skin problem. Any doctors did not know the
reason for the disease and naturally I and my parents could not know how
to deal with it. What I solely did was just taking some medicines, however, it
did not seem to be cured. Finally, we decided to move to a countryside of the
city where I could eat healthy foods and breathe fresh air and lived there for
5 years. As a result, my skin problem has been healed without any medicines.
In
addition, growing children in rural areas is more likely to generate an
educational effect. When it comes to creativity, various experience is a must.
Living in rural areas guarantee first hand experience such as climbing a
mountain, go fishing and so on and it naturally excite the senses. To be
specific, Children are able to experience so many things stimulating their
curiosity that would be hardly done in big cities. That means that they
can spend more time doing physical activities in nature and it can
improve children's creativity that is regarded as one of important factors
of success. There is a study which was conducted by a group of education majors
in Seoul national university and it would be a good example of
this. Researchers monitored two groups; one group consisted of
students who had ever lived in rural areas at least for a few years and the
other group was formed of students who had lived only in big cities. All of them
were asked have tests to measure a level of their creativity. The result was
intriguing. The former group had higher creativity than the latter group. The
reason for this was that students in former group had more various experience in
countryside which helped to stimulate their curiosity.
To
sum up, growing up in rural areas helps children become healthier. Moreover, it
also helps children have higher creativity. In this regard, I firmly believe
that it is much more advantageous to grow children in rural areas than in big
cities.
