▶ Your Answer : Some people think that the government
should allow old historic buildings to be destroyed and replaced with modern
ones. However, I disagree with the statement by taking education and tourism
into account.
To begin with, old historic buildings
enable students study history easier and realize that learning history can be
fun. Old historic buildings account for an essential part of history because it
was the location that the historical event happened. By visiting these historic
sites and guiding by instructors, students can feel the history as if they are
in the historic events and it will lead to deeper understanding of the
historical events. For example, the survey was conducted by Seoul Palace Center
with field trip students who visited palaces of the Chosun Dynasty as
respondents to get their feedback and feeling after visiting palaces. An
overwhelming 90% of students responded that it was exceptional experience and
visiting palaces is the best way to learn history. The reason was that since
they can watch and experience not through books or lectures but with their
eyes, they could not but concentrate on the historic events on these palaces.
Therefore, as far as the education objective is concerned, the old historic
building must be conserved and prevented from replacing with modern buildings.
On top of that, old historic buildings are
useful when it comes to drawing an attention of tourists. Many tourists want to
feel their cultures. In my opinion, there is no other better way than visiting
and experiencing in historic buildings such as eating in the historic buildings
to feel cultures. For instance, there is Bukchon Han-ok village in Seoul,
Korea. In this village, many Korean traditional houses referred as 'Han-ok' are
located unlike other modern towns. Due to this peculirarty, a number of foreigners have visited this
place with wearing Korean traditional clothes, 'Han bok' and have enjoyed the
traditional cultures of Korea. The place now becomes must-visited place in
Seoul. Thanks to these visitors, markets, cafes and hotels nearby this village
gain significant amount of profit. Would it be possible to grasp an attention
of foreigners if the village is replaced with modern houses? The answer might
be no. The advantages of conserving old historic buildings outweigh the
advantages of replacing them to modern ones.
To sum up, taking helping students to learn
history well and drawing an attention of tourists into account, I disagree with
the statement. |
