Some people argue that using telephones rather than emails to contact others is a better way because one could feel a sence of intimacy through a phone call. However, in the case of informing a controversial issue, I believe emails are a better method of communication. This is because people are often forgetful of something that they had heared about through a short phone call. Also, emails are more time and cost effective.
First, during a conversation with others, whether it is on a serious issue or a trivial problem, people often forget about what they had heared about or even what they had talked about. This case would be the same when a person talks about a controversial issue through a cell phone. It is unlikely that one would completely understand and remember each and every details in a conversation. This has also been proven by an experiment conducted by Seoul National University. Their experiment suggests that among 2000 participants, when participants were repeatedly shown or told about several items that needs to be purchased, participants were better at remembering items that were shown through pictures rather than through a voice message. This indicates that human memory would last longer through visual interpretation and not through hearing. Therefore, this experiment as an evidence to my assertion, suggests that something controversial should be dealt using an email than through a phone.
Second, emails are more time and cost effective. Nowadays, where there is rapid social and economic development, people find ways to be effective. Also, because of globalisation, emails are one of the most effective way of communicating with others. By using emails, one can write and review the thing they were about to send to the opponent. This effectively reduces the time spent on trying to memorize the list of things that one would like to say to the opponent. Also, calling someone abroad would be very expensive through a phone call. However, when internet is accessible, email permits any delivery of messages at no cost. For instance, because I live abroad, I use emails to contact my family, friends and colleagues at work. The reason why I use emails so often is because of its advantages stated above.
Emails are a better way of communication compared to telephones, especially when talking about something controversial. |
