▶ Topic :Despite their potential economic value, a
nation should pass laws to preserve any of its remaining wilderness areas in
their natural state.
The author (독립형인데 author이 따로 있나요?) contends that a nation should
implement laws to protect a the natural
environment. I agree so far as a lot of inventions and medicines which are
useful for people came from biodiversity in nature. However, the following
essay will argue that why this may not always be the case with considering the
development of the industry in a nation.
Admittedly, the author’s assertion that preserving the natural environment has positive effects on
science and technology. In the wilderness area, we can find diverse animals and
plants. Such biodiversity improves science and technology through motivating
scientists to utilize the typical features of nature creatures like the shape
of dolphins or plant seeds. Biomimetic is one of
the methods to invent convenient and creative products by imitating an animal’s behavior or a
plant’s feature. Velcro is a great example of biomimetic invention which
imitates plant seeds. Furthermore, a lot of medicines came from nature. Through
mixing and dissolving materials from plants,
thousands of pharmaceuticals have been produced.
To be specific, in Amazon, we can find valuable plants and animals for people.
However, our logical thinking allows us to believe
that the author’s assertion to prevent development of the wilderness
areas may not always be warranted. Factitious environment for humans such as buildings and highways cannot coexist with
intact nature. For example, if one city needs to build an airport in order to
provoke economy activation, it is inevitable to destroy the city’s nature like
a forest. Especially, in China, rapid developments of the
industry and economy are have been
occurring within five decades. Unfortunately, the rapid developments always
bring environment pollutions and destroy nature. Although it is a fact that development has harmful effects to nature,
a city cannot prohibit to build a new facility and develop an industry on
certain important conditions for citizen.
In conclusion, while the author’s claim might seem beneficial in certain
conditions, in light of above counter points that nature cannot coexist with
factitious environment, the author’s claim cannot be agreed in full.
