▶ Your Answer :
Some people argue that asking grandparents
for advice is of use to grandchildren. However, in my opinion, it is not
effective for grandchildren to receive advice from their grandparents. There
are two reasons. First, the perspective of grandparents is not adequate in the
present day. Second, using the Internet for solution is more effective than advice
from grandparents in terms of saving time.
First of all, with the flow of time, modern
society is changing fast, thus, thoughts of the elderly are regarded
old-fashioned. To be specific, it is obvious that the advice of old generation
is mainly not suitable due to the fact that context of society has completely
changed. Even if the young receive the advice through grandparents, they will
not consider their advice. For example, I will talk about myself as an example.
When I was senior in the high school, I had to decide my majors for entering a university.
Since I did not have my own opinion about a major, I asked my grandfather for
help. With his diverse experience, he recommended me architecture major because
he thinks architect is one of the high-salary jobs. Unlike his youthful days,
architect cannot earn a lot of money at present. Therefore, I ignored his
advice and decided to choose engineering major. This example demonstrates that
grandparent’s views can be archaic.
On top of that, with the development of
technology such as Internet or smart phone application, people can get easily
information they want. Concerning saving time, it is better to search on the
Internet for advice rather than talking with grandparents. Also, there are
amount of different opinions on the Internet so that people can consider not
one’s opinion but a variety of opinions. In this regard, the young do not have
to waste time on going to grandparent’s house and talking with them for
solution. For instance, there was a survey conducted by a group of sociology
majors with 200 high school students as respondents. The purpose of the survey
was to understand their thoughts about using internet for finding useful
advice. A majority of them responded that it is effective because they can
readily access without the boundary of time and space. Also, an overwhelming of
respondents replied that they usually employ the Internet to resolve their
predicaments. This survey demonstrates that young people have positive views
about finding the solution online due to its effectiveness.
To sum up, taking anachronism of their
thoughts and useful alternative to the advice from grandparents into
consideration, I believe that it is not efficient for students to ask their
grandparents for the advice.
