▶ Your Answer :
The author contends that government experts
should implement a policy based on their judgement. I agree so far as
politicians are skillful to expect a long-term policy since they have deep
knowledge and experience. However, the following essay will argue that why this
may not always be the case. The example of a political corruption reveals
disadvantages of the author’s claim.
Admittedly, the author’s assertion that
politicians should make decision based on their own judgement might hold true
under certain circumstances. The first reason I have such a view is that government
officials have expertise about their fields such as science, economy, or
education. These different kinds of expertise promote them to expect long-term
policy better. For instance, in the part of science, they can expect well about
dangerous factors, following results, and efficacies after implementing the
policy. In addition, they can also calculate overall profits and revenue per
year as a long-term calculation in the part of economy. It is difficult for
average people to consider a long-term effect of these policies.
However, our logical thinking allows us to
believe that the author’s assertion may not always be warranted by several
reasons. Although government experts have a perspicacious expectation of a
long-term policy because of their expertise, they sometimes tend to implement a
policy for a personal interest. For example, there are a lot of political
corruption in our society. Many politicians often wield their political power
to extract and accumulate for private enrichment and ignore the difficulties of
citizens. This is an important issue because most of politicians cannot
represent of general people in a nation. To be specific, in Brazil, the most of
government officials are white people nevertheless the most of citizens are
black people. Therefore, some policies that affect directly to daily life such
as tax regulation should base decision of the people they serve.
To sum, the author’s assumption related to
determining a policy is logically flawed based on the above mentioned reasons.
To strengthen his or her argument, the author should closely examine all the
conditions and possible factors about the dark side of the political world. In
conclusion, I partially agree with the author’s slightly skewed view that politicians
are good at expecting of a future efficacy and damages of a long-term policy.
However, we should not ignore the importance of reflecting the average people’s
opinion and pursuit.
