▶ Your Answer : Some people may think that to notice students’ grades after tests and projects is a good way to promote their learning. However, in my case, I totally disagree with this statement. Since it is not an effective way and cause excessive competition. To begin with, to offer grades for students can only concentrate on scores. The education cannot be evaluated only the outcomes. The process of studying is also meaningful. all both of them are important and valuable. For instance, a study was conducted by the Korean Broad of Education in 2012 to determine whether informing grades could affect students’ academic performance. There were two group monitored. The first group were formed of students who received their scholastic achievement result after every exams. the second group did not. The researcher compared the outcomes and recorded. The researchers tracked over a 3 year period. What they found was intriguing. The latter group were able to gain better scores in same tests. Since they did not put great emphasis on their result rather than paid attention to the process of studying. Consequently, they were able to improve the ability of solving problem, not the skills of increasing grades. On the top of that, to know test’s scores provokes overly a sense of competition. Most students will compare with others naturally. In this case, students always care their rank and want to go beyond others. In the worst scenario, they could wrong behave. For example, I will talk about my friend’s experience to illustrate this point. when I was in high school, my school was infamous for posting rank on the bulletin broad after every tests. All student was stressful and especially my friend was stressed out too much because she wanted to stand out among students. One day, she cheated on the test and be caught by teacher. she finally failed this test and get the worst grades ever. This proves that to provide students with results is not helpful to enhance accomplishment. To sum up, giving students exam scores is not beneficial to develop academic achievement and bring out undue competition. In this regard, I firmly believe that to provide tests grade do not encourage learning. |
