Some people might say
that universities have to provide their students with chances to practice some
requirements which are necessary to get a job. However, I disagree with this
assertion for two following reasons.
To begin with, the
underlying goal of universities is teaching academic knowledge and researching.
Therefore, they should place priority on classes with high quality and
propagation of knowledge. Actually, they are the most important place for
improvement of human beings’
intellectual ability. Thus, if they did not concentrate on this goal, one
country’s development in science and knowledge would be
fallen fall. For example, I will talk about
my country’s case. In my country, Korea, a few years
ago, many universities have had been
focusing on the rate of students’ employment, not
studies or lectures. As this trend has had
been continued, basic science is weakening weakened
more and more. As a result, the number of scientists reduced with the flow of
time, and myriad of companies where technical knowledge based on elemental
sciences are were necessary are paying
paid lots of money for using intellectual patent
from other countries until now. This example indicates that the downfall of
elemental science in one country can eventually lead to economical loss of the
nation.
Moreover, preparing for
students’ jobs should
be done in out of universities because that is more effective. In that matter,
activities conducted in fields are more important than textbook knowledge or
theories from universities, and internship is such an example. This is because
students are able to learn practical knowledge which is used in real fields.
For example, last summer, I worked in an advertisement company as an intern.
This enabled me to learn lots of knowledge related with making advertisement
such as how to decide the concepts for the advertisement, to evaluate the
effects of the advertisement. These are not the same as something I learned
from books and classes in universities. Furthermore, these knowledge was also
helpful for my job interview. Thanks to these knowledge, I draw interviewer’s attention, and finally god got
the job. (이 문단은 오히려
대학교에서 ‘practical knowledge’를 가르쳐야 한다는 것 같은 내용입니다.)
In
conclusion, universities should provide students excellent academic knowledge,
not practical skills for employment, and students have to participate in other
chances conducted by other institutions except universities such as internship
in order to get jobs. In this regard, I firmly believe that universities should
focus on studying and teaching academic knowledge
