▶ Your Answer :
Some people might argue that it is useless
for all university students to be required to learn about history. However, I
believe that all students should take history courses regardless of majors.
There are two reasons. First, knowing a lot of knowledge is imperative for one’s
successful life. Also, it is closely related with the development of a country.
First of all, people nowadays tend to take
courses related to their majors so that their view might be so narrow. By
taking history courses, students can expand scope of knowledge. In other words,
it is required for people to have a variety of knowledge rather than deep
knowledge of one specific field. A person with sufficient knowledge is regarded
as “a person of intellect”, while others who lack knowledge are simply ignored.
Learning about different field such as history can be of big help for
university students. For example, I will talk about myself and my sister. I am
usually interested in reading books associated with only my major. Unlike me,
my sister always read wide array of books even not related to her major. When
there are situations like important interviews, my sister always leaves a good
impression. However, I end up giving inappropriate answers and failing the last
test.
On top of that, having citizens with
concrete identities of their nation brings benefits for the country. This can
be accomplished by the education of history. People engraved with national
identity can appropriately deal with international conflict, especially related
to history or territory. For instance, I will take my country Korea
as an example. There are a lot of international conflicts with other countries.
All the Korean is required to learn about history since they were young. Thus,
the country can easily get agreement of the public about the issues and process
fast. The country eventually has the laugh on one’s side in the issue. This
demonstrate that the well developed history education can positively effect on
the country’s benefit.
To sum up, taking expanding students’ range of
knowledge and improvement of a country into consideration, I firmly think that
the university should required all students to take history courses. |
