There have been numerous and notable issues
that impacted the world in the twentieth century. In my opinion, the invention
of the Internet is the most astounding issue in the twentieth century for the
following reasons. It brought out many advantages and disadvantages that
changed the world.
To
begin with, one of the advantages is that thanks to the Internet, we are
surrounded by myriads of information. We could discover a lot of information
easily. If you come across some concepts you don’t know, just a brief googling
will show you every ideas from trivial ones to main points about the concepts.
Let me exemplify this by my personal experience. Last year, I made a plan to
travel to Czech Republic. I didn’t know anything about the place and didn’t
know what to do. But the Internet in my smart phone solved all my problems in a
minute from transportation, sightseeing and food to hotel and even festivals
held there.
Moreover,
another advantage is that since the invention of the internet, we can contact
or keep in touch with people more often and even with people who are in abroad.
Through Internet, people can send e-mails each other and enter the websites
like Facebook and Instagram. Especially, In Facebook, people communicate
instantly and make friends by just sending them friend requirements. It’s also
available to the people who are far away each other.
Apparently,
there is also disadvantage of the Internet. It contains the privacy problem.
Since people are making lots of profiles and singing up in various websites in
the Internet, one computer has every private information about a user. And if
it is hacked, nothing can protect users from losing their privacy. Also
ignoring the hacking problem, people’s private information is easy to be
spread. Because most of the users are the anonymous in the Internet, they
easily spread other people’s information they know not feeling guilty. Many
people became the victims of this problem in the Internet and sometimes it
caused the victims to have mental problems or to kill themselves.
