In the reading passage, the writer asserts
that buying a franchise is a better mean of doing own business. On the other
hand, the lecturer refutes the writer’s claim by contradicting the reasons
adduced by the writer.
First,
the lecturer states that buying a franchise does not assure reliable supplying
of goods and services. Franchising companies often force their family
franchises to buy specific products and services that have much higher price
than normal. What is more, a A franchise cannot buy products from the local
market even if the price of the market is cheaper. This directly opposes the
writer’s claim that franchising companies provide reliable vendor to family
franchises.
Second,
the lecturer claims that the advantage a franchise will get on advertising is
not as big as they it seems. A franchise generally has to pay six per cent of their
total profit to their franchising company as fee for advertising. This fee
could be burden to a franchise. On top of that, the advertising is not that
beneficial for each franchise due to the range of advertising. The target of
advertising from the franchising company is too broad and extensive that each
small franchise cannot get an advantage on the advertising. This contradicts the
writer’s opinion that advertising is beneficial to a franchise.
Finally,
the lecturer points out that buying a franchise is not the most secure way to
own business. Admittedly, it is less risky than starting a new business.
However, buying already successful business is actually better than buying a
franchise based on the study of franchise. This rebuts the writer’s claim that
a franchise provide secure way to starting a business.
