▶ Your Answer : It has been controversial issues since people started to teach skills and knowledge to their descendents. And some of efforts were very successful, but some trials derived reverse effects. And grading students has been regarded as one of the most efficient one among various methods to promote learning. This is because, it enables students to motivate themselves to study and it encourages students study subjects they don't like. Recently, a renowned educator in South Korea published an article on last Tuesday, claiming that the recent GPA system is very effective in motivating students. As students has lack enough experiences they have hard time controlling themselves. So they are easily succumb to the tempation of playing computer games. They usually can't study hard without any strong 'threats' even if they have strong will to study hard. However, the evaluating system which is based on mid-term and final exams provides students a short- goal. Through this short not only helps students to generate power to defeat the temptation of playing but also encourage them to study hard for good grades. Students know that GPA reports are directly related to their college admissions and various job opportunities. Through the article, I realized that evaluating students with grade is very helpful in motivating students to learn various things. A renowned educator in South Korea published a paper related to the positive aspacts of recent education system. He claimed that today's evaluating system is very effective. Today's seconary school and university curriculums can be compared to the master pieces of artists such as Statue of Liberty in th U.S. As it contains every subjects what is necessary, it is crucial for students to learn every single courses. This is because, the courses involves knowledge which are vital factors to survive in current society. However, students study less if they don't like subjects. Especially, students extremely hate learning math even though math can be applied to various professional realms. However, if students are greatly motivated to study such subjects, like math, to get good grades on these courses. Extracting the information in the distribution added in the paper, students who were only forced to study subjects they didn't like performed much worse than the groups never imposed to study the boring subjects, but graded. In other words, statistically, students were much more inspired to study hard with the short-term goals. This paper was convincing enough for me to believe that grading students to promote their learning is effective. To conclude, I believe that providing students with grade enables students to learn better ; to help motivate students themselves and encourage students to learn subjects they don't like. Consequently, my view cannot be underestimated due to the reasons I have mentioned above. |
