Some people may
think that to notice students’
grades after tests and projects is a good way to promote their learning.
However, in my case, I totally disagree with this statement, since it is not an effective way and causes excessive competition.
To begin with, to offer grades for students can only
concentrate forces them to concentrate only on
scores. The education cannot be evaluated only through
the outcomes. The process of studying is also meaningful. all both of them
are important and valuable. For instance, a study was conducted by the
Korean Broad of Education in 2012 to determine whether informing grades could
affect students’
academic performance. There were two groups
monitored. The first group were was formed
of students who received their scholastic achievement result after every exam. The second group did not. The researcher compared the
outcomes and recorded them. The researchers
tracked over a 3 year period. What they found was intriguing (문장 구조가 단순합니다. 어떤 문장들은 짧으니
차라리 comma를 활용해서 이어주세요. 또한 group은 단수입니다). The latter group were was
able to gain better scores in same tests, since
they did not put great emphasis on their result, but
rather than paid attention to the process of studying. Consequently,
they were able to improve the ability of solving problem, not the skills of
increasing grades.
On the top of that, to know test’s scores provokes overly a sense of competition. Most
students will compare with others naturally. In this case, students always care
about their rank and want to go beyond others.
In the worst scenario, they could wrong misbehave.
For example, I will talk about my friend’s experience to illustrate this point. When I was in high school, my school was infamous for
posting the overall ranks
on the bulletin broad after every tests. All students was were stressful
and especially my friend was stressed out too so
much because she wanted to stand out among students. One day, she cheated on
the test and be was caught by teacher. She finally failed this test and get got the worst grades ever. This proves that to provide
students with results is not helpful to enhance accomplishment. (성적을 발표해서 친구가 부정행위를 했다는
건 살짝 억지인 것 같아요)
To sum up, giving students exam scores is not beneficial to develop
academic achievement and bring out undue competition. In this regard, I firmly
believe that to provide test grades does not encourage learning.
