▶ Your Answer :
Opinions might be divided over whether courses related to specific occupations are much better for students than general academic subjects. People make take diverse positions on the controversial issue by the age or the occupation. I side with the perspective that academic courses (General or specific?) are more important for students for the following two reasons: firstly, students might lose their opportunity to choose many options and secondly, they could have not been satisfied about specific courses.
To begin with, some people would have thought that they cannot decide their future yet and thus, if students are forced to take educations related to specific occupations, they will not find a favorite work later. Let me bring up my personal experience as an example. When I was in high school, I had to do specific occupation course to become a science engineer. However, I didn't have much had not confidence at all at that time. Although I hated to learn about engineering, my school forced me to take a course related to specific occupation, which made me feel like to give giving up general subjects. If my school had provided students general courses, I would have taken a different work. The same applies to most people like me.
On top of that, most students make a habit of deciding a future life. (Unclear point) In other words another word, they generally want to hang out with their friend or play a computer game. Because they do not think their future seriously, they usually look forward to take a general course instead of specific stuff. There are many articles that reaffirm my viewpoint. A few weeks later, I read an op-ed piece from Korea Herald that is related to the topic. The article described the result of a survey, which was conducted by Seoul National University social science researchers with more than 500 people as respondents. The purpose of the survey was to understand the consensus view about students preferred general courses to specific courses. Of the 500-people surveyed, over 80 percent answered that they want to go to schools that provide general courses. The reason is that they do not decide their future yet. This clearly proves that what general courses are better for students is taken for granted.
In conclusion, if schools provide students with specific courses, they not only would not have taken a chance to select many options but also could not have been fit for their preference. In this regard, students do not have to been forced to take courses related to specific occupations.
